Happy Valentine’s Day! I made these DIY Valentine’s gifts for my 3 year old sons. The knitted hearts were a lot of fun to make, and they fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. This was a fun craft for me to make throughout the week. The knitting patterns are very simple. As you can tell by my stitches, I am not the best at knitting, so this is a great project for beginners. I try to make handmade gifts for my kids for every holiday. I like that they are toys and also keepsakes that they can cherish for years to come. The adorable mice are made by Fairy Shadow on Etsy.
Because I used Rainbow Yarns, the hearts and envelope are different colors on each side, which is a lot of fun! The two photos above are of the same knitted heart.

Free Knitting Patterns
I am always on the hunt for free knitting patterns. I tried many heart knitting patterns before landing on this one. This knitting pattern was definitely the most simple. Both patterns are knitted one single point needles, making them beginner friendly. The hearts are knit in stockinette stitch and the “envelope” is knit in seed stitch.
If you’re looking for another DIY Valentine’s Day gift for a friend or partner that knits, check out my Watercolor Felt Knitting Needle Pouch Tutorial.
I have made a few other knitting related posts. I made a Knitted Farmyard Playmat here, and a Knitted Runny rabbit here.
Heart Knitting Pattern

I stuffed my hearts with stuffing and lavender. They smell soo good, and are perfect to fall asleep with. I tried stuffing them with beans to make beanbags, but the beans were coming through the stitches, and I was afraid they would pose a choking hazard.
For this pattern, I used Red Heart Unforgettable Yarn in the Color Sunrise.
“Envelope” Knitting Pattern

I modified this pattern a little. I made the bag shorter, and didn’t add a button. Other than that, it’s the exact same! For this pattern, I used Red Heart Unforgettable Yarn in the color Polo.
