Apple Stamping Craft for Kids
This apple stamping craft is a classic preschool craft for fall. I remember making this craft when I was in preschool, and that was decades ago! Autumn is the perfect time to go apple picking and make apple cider. This apple stamping craft aligned perfectly with our “Letter A Week.” I always try to incorporate a process art piece into our lesson plans.
Process Art is child directed, and is focused on the process of creating the art, not the outcome. While cut out preschool art pieces are fun as a keepsake, process art is the work of the child. These may end up in the trash, but the benefits are invaluable. The child is allowed to express themselves freely, they can explore the textures of the paint, and use their imagination on how to work with the materials.
I set up a plate for stamping, but also paint and paintbrushes in recycled glass jars. My son enjoyed mixing the paints, smearing the apples on the plate, and painting the apples with the paintbrushes. I noticed my son was far more confident than he would be while making a craft that had an “end goal.”
While we were painting, my son also noticed different parts of the apple without my prompting. He learned that an apple has a stem, seeds and a core.

- Cut an apple in half. You can have your child help you with some child safe kitchen tools.
- Paint and stamp!
Once we were done with our apple stamping craft, he made an entry in his Little Composition Book.
