My boys loved playing with this fall sensory tray, and it was very simple and affordable to make! If you’ve been following our fall nature crafts, you’ve seen these cardboard mushrooms before! We made a cardboard puzzle out of our free downloadable vintage mushroom poster and here we have found a new use for the pieces.
A sensory writing tray is a great tool for preschool age children and toddlers. My twins are 3 years old, so we used the sensory tray to teach the correct orientation of the numbers, number recognition, number tracing, and counting. You can change up your play to suit that age and needs of your child. You can use it to trace letters, which is a great way to start pre writing skills in an non intimidating way.
To set up our fall sensory tray, we used colors that reminded us of fall. Lentils were the perfect orange that was reminiscent of autumn. The little pinecones and mushrooms were also a perfect fit.

- Print out our free vintage mushroom poster.
- Cut out mushrooms.
- Glue mushrooms onto cardboard, we used mod podge.
- Cut out mushroom shapes out of cardboard.
