Sensory activities are a great way to connect with toddlers and babies, and even with older children. We try to incorporate nature in our sensory activities and create multisensory experiences. Another priority is making sure these sensory experiences are safe, sustainable, affordable, and simple. These can be set up in a minute, and incorporate simple materials that you can find in your home or in your backyard.
Nature Prints
Nature prints are the perfect summer activity. I am always surprised by the beautiful impressions my boys end up making. Go on a nature walk, collect some leaves and flowers, and make some art!
Beet Ice Paint
This sensory activity is perfect for cooling down during summer. This is also a great sensory activity for babies and toddlers, because it is safe to eat and multisensory.
Natural Dyed Turmeric Play Dough
Making Play Dough is a sensory experience in itself! My boys love to mix the ingredients together and knead the dough. This play dough is made of turmeric dye and has scents and flowers, making it a cute summer craft.
Bake a Sun Bread
We bake bread every week, and finish it before the week is over! My boys love making this Sun Bread for both summer and winter solstice.
Seashell Sensory Play
This is as simple as it gets! This is another great sensory activity for babies, and it requires no setup. We love to collect seashells at the beach and incorporate them in our sensory play. You could also use saltwater instead of fresh to make the experience even more emursive.
Turmeric Ice Paint
Same as the beet ice paint, but with turmeric! Ice paint is super simple for sensory play all summer long. We love to incorporate flowers in our ice paints.
Tree Painting
Tree painting is great for sensory play. Make some beautiful summer memories with your little artist. Take your sensory play outdoors!
