The boys enjoyed this way more than I was expecting! It was very simple to make so it is becoming a staple in our home. I mixed turmeric in a glass of water and then poured the mixture into an ice tray. I also added a few marigold petals on top for a little texture before freezing. After frozen, I added a small amount of warm water to a bowl and plopped them in. They played with this for a long time. They loved to count the ice and place them in and out of their bowls. One of my sons loved to also lick the ice, which is fine because it is edible! This was a great sensory experience. They could touch and feel the differences between the cold and warm temperatures of the ice and water, they could smell the turmeric, they could feel the texture of the marigold, and they could even taste the ice. I think this would also be a great activity for young babies. We also did this on watercolor paper which yielded a better result visually, it almost looked like granulated watercolor which was very lovely.
